  7. Here is 8.00 of Turbo CALC.  The release levels of Turbo CALC have
  8. been slow in coming because the program is becoming a mature product.
  9. I do hope you find the new features rewarding:
  10.  
  11.    1. Range Names.  Now you can name a range or individual cell so that
  12.       you need not remember the cell address.  For example you could refer
  13.       to your cashflow range with the name @CASHFLOW!  This is very handy,
  14.       especially in conjunction with macros!
  15.  
  16.    2. Macros.  Turbo CALC now supports macros, styled in the tradition of
  17.       the more expensive commercial spreadsheets.  There are 30 macro keys
  18.       and they may refer to locations in the spreadsheet to allow macros
  19.       of virtually unlimited power.
  20.  
  21.    3. The erase command has been expanded so that it is possible to erase
  22.       just a part of the worksheet, as well as being able to erase the entire
  23.       worksheet.

  27. Release 7.00 of Turbo CALC has been awhile coming!  But here it is.
  28. Some of the new features are:
  29.  
  30.    1. New, better high lighting of the row/column labels.
  31.  
  32.    2. Text import.
  33.  
  34.    3. Worksheet merge.
  35.  
  36.    4. Support for 8087 math chip - up to 3 times faster!
  37.  
  38.    5. Color options in the edit module.
  39.  
  40.    6. Save graph to disk file for later editing and/or printing.
  41.  
  42. Also, this release will auto recalculate after a row/column deletion, if
  43. autocalc is turned on.

  46. Bugs
  47. ----
  48. Bugs are disgusting things.  I hate 'em.  Especially when I find them
  49. in my programs.  Well, I found one in Turbo CALC(tm) and I killed it.
  50. The result is release 6.31.  The bug was located in the cell input area,
  51. if the user attempted to revise a formula that was more than 13 positions
  52. long, the program forgot that is was a formula and treated the result as
  53. text.  Not so nice!  Well, I found it.  But it makes me wonder, the bug
  54. had gone unobserved for a long time.  Why hasn't somebody said something?
  55. I know, I am the only one who uses formulae longer than 13 positions!

  57. Graphics
  58. --------
  59. With TC 6.30, graphics are being introduced.  The program will now do
  60. bar graphs, with up to 6 variables on display.
  61.  
  62. Now the program also supports an Environment variable for Hard Disk users,
  63. so that TC can find its home directory without being there when started.
  64. Put the following or similar in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

  66.                         PATH=c:\dos;c:\tc
  67.                         set TCPATH=c:\tc
  68.  
  69. Assuming that you have TC and related files stored on drive C in the TC
  70. directory.  Use the appropriate drive and directory for your system.

  73. Registration Plan
  74. -----------------
  75. With TC 6.20, a user registration plan is being introduced.  All copies
  76. of TC will now carry a serial #.  The purpose of the serial # is to encourage
  77. registration and contribution.  When someone registers a copy of TC that
  78. contains your registered serial #, we will split the contribution with you.
  79. You will receive 25% of the contribution or $10 when the suggested amount is
  80. received.

  82. The suggested contribution has been increased, to $35.  This is to cover the
  83. expense of including an automatic upgrade in initial registration.
  84.  
  85. Finally, a suggested contribution has been decided upon for old users who
  86. wish to upgrade, $10.  Already registered users may send this contribution
  87. and receive a registered copy of TC - one with their own serial number.  This
  88. will allow them to be able to obtain shares of contributions, just like the
  89. newly registered folks.

  92. Cleaning up the bugs.
  93. ---------------------
  94. Version 6.11 of Turbo CALC represents a bug fix release.  There were no
  95. major bugs, but a few small ones.  Among the most notable of the bugs
  96. fixed was:

  98.             1.  The EDIT module will ask you to save the buffer if
  99.                 you exit to the CALC module with the F2 key.
  100.  
  101.             2.  The CALC module handles the printer init string
  102.                 correctly now.  It had the habit of "eating" it
  103.                 before.

  106. Expanding the worksheet.
  107. ------------------------
  108. With the appearance of the new "ExpressCalc"(tm) from Expressware, really
  109. the old PC-Calc with a new name and some new features, the race to
  110. increase the size of worksheets is on!
  111.  
  112. Expressware has increased the capacity of the old PC-Calc from 256x64 to
  113. 8192x2, and all variations thereof.  This is pretty good.  However you
  114. arrange the cells, you get about 16,384 total cells.  A brilliant achievement.

  116. Now how about "Turbo CALC"(tm) from P & M Software?  Well, we are not to be
  117. outdone.  With version 6.10 of "Turbo CALC"(tm), the worksheet can now have
  118. the following dimensions, with some to spare:

  129. One more new feature in this release: protected fields!  Keeps you from
  130. accidentally destroying a field.  Use Alt-T to protect a field.

  133. Turbo CALC Editor News

  136. With version 6.10, some bugs have been fixed, but the big news is that
  137. the scrolling has been improved dramatically.  In the original version,
  138. 6.00, the screen would scroll with a rippling effect, this has been
  139. eliminated to a great degree.
